Safeguarding Adults Information for Halton

Don't turn your back on abuse!

Safeguarding Adults / Adult Protection - Protecting adults from abuse.

It is a fact that adults do get abused and sometimes people’s circumstances make them more vulnerable to abuse, e.g. frailty, illness, mental health issues or disabilities of any kind.

Abuse can take many forms – it might be physical, financial or about possessions, sexual, emotional, discriminatory, or be as a result of institutional regimes.Abuse can happen anywhere at any time and can be deliberate or unintentional, and might be as a result of negligence, ignorance or carer stress.

Sadly, people who abuse can be those that we might expect to trust the most, such as family and friends, staff in care homes, day services, hospital, at college.  It can happen in the abused person’s own home, in the street or any other public place.

What to do if you have concerns, see or hear of abuse happening

We all need to know what to do:

  • To prevent abuse from happening  and to protect people from abuse when they are in our care.
  • Who to tell, if we have concerns that someone is being or has been abused.

Please act if you see, hear or suspect abuse.  No one should live in fear.

‘Here to Help’

Here_to_help_brochure_launch_09Over the past few months a huge amount of work has been underway to understand the PCT funded Voluntary sector market.  The work has been fronted by a partnership between the PCT, Halton Voluntary Action and St Helens CVS.  It came as no surprise that we found a huge amount of untapped skills and outcomes that needed formalizing and celebrating.
